Description

Research Diluent (0.9% Benzyl Alcohol in Purified Water)

A non-USP aqueous vehicle of 0.9% benzyl alcohol (CAS 100-51-6) in purified water, supplied for reconstituting lyophilized research peptides. The benzyl alcohol is present as a bacteriostatic agent, which is what distinguishes this from plain water: it suppresses microbial growth in a container accessed more than once, making it the appropriate choice for a multi-use vial rather than a single withdrawal.

Vehicle Properties & Research Context

  • Bacteriostatic, not sterilising. Benzyl alcohol inhibits microbial growth; it does not sterilise a contaminated preparation. Aseptic technique still governs the outcome.

  • Suited to repeated access. The reason to choose this over unpreserved water is multiple withdrawals from one vial over time.

  • Near-neutral pH. Appropriate for peptides that dissolve without acid. Peptides with poor neutral-pH solubility need an acidic vehicle such as 0.6% acetic acid instead.

  • Non-USP. This is a laboratory reagent and is not manufactured to United States Pharmacopeia standards.

  • Preservative compatibility. Benzyl alcohol is not inert toward every peptide. Where stability in a preserved vehicle is unknown, run it against an unpreserved control before committing a stock.

Research Applications

  • Reconstitution of lyophilized research peptides for multi-withdrawal storage.

  • Vehicle controls at matched final concentration.

  • Stability comparison against unpreserved aqueous vehicles.

Analytical Documentation

Concentration and purity vary by manufacturing lot. Kimera Chems does not publish a single fixed purity figure for this item; refer to the batch-specific Certificate of Analysis (COA) issued for the lot received.

Storage & Handling

Store at controlled room temperature. Do not refrigerate or freeze. Cold storage may cause the solution to cloud or precipitate. If this occurs, return to room temperature and mix until clear.

Storage guidance is a house recommendation. Analytical documentation is per-lot release testing.
